Computador que puede leer los labios y reconocer idiomas
Científicos ingleses han desarrollado un computador que no sólo es capaz de leer los labios sino que también puede reconocer diferencias entre idiomas gracias al uso de un modelado estadístico de 23 habladores bilingües y trilingües.
Investigadores de la Universidad de East Anglia, School of Computing Sciences, han desarrollado una nueva tecnología que hace capaz a un computador identificar el idioma hablado por una persona con un alto nivel de precisión, pudiendo identificar el idioma entre los siguientes: inglés, francés, alemán, árabe, mandarín, cantonés, italiano, polaco y ruso. ¿Cómo es capaz un computador de diferenciar entre idiomas? es cuestión de reconocimiento visual de características típicas de cada idioma, como el movimiento de la lengua, barbilla y labios mientras se habla. El reconocimiento tradicional que se conoce como leer los labios. La visión por computador ya ha sido usada para la lectura de labios, pero esta es la primera vez que se usa para reconocer distintos idiomas, según UEA. El descubrimiento podría tener usos prácticos para personas sordas y unidades militares en el extranjero.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
